What is AHL? AHL is the American Hockey League. It is the professional ice hockey league recognized as the second-best in that country after the National Hockey League (NHL: National Hockey League).

The American Hockey League is an exciting 30-team minor league which is based in Canada. This league consists of 27 teams from the United States and 3 teams from Canada.

The history of the league dates back to 1926 with the creation of the Canadian-American Hockey League.

With the withdrawal of the last Canadian teams, the league was renamed American Hockey League in 1941. In the 2001-2002 seasons, the league grew by several 6 teams thanks to the bankruptcy of the International Hockey League.

The league’s headquarters are in Springfield. The current president of the AHL is David Andrews.

The champion of each season of the playoffs is awarded the Calder Cup.
