UCLA Football: UCLA Bruins is the name of sports teams of the University of California, Los Angeles. The Bruins, in the men’s and women’s categories, participate in Division I of the NCAA as part of the Pacific-12 Conference and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). The football team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl subdivision.

UCLA is the second University to have won the most NCAA championships, after only Stanford University.

Like the men’s team, UCLA has had a women’s soccer team since 1937. Since its inception, they have won the Pac-10 championship 8 times. In 2013, they won the NCAA championship for the first and only time in their history, although they have been runners-up on 3 occasions.

The team was playing their home games at Drake Stadium until 2017, the year they moved to Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Since 2013, the team has been coached by Amanda Cromwell, a former player for the U.S. women’s national soccer team. Previously, the bench had been occupied by BJ Snow and Jill Ellis, a current American coach. 

Players like Lauren Barnes, Abby Dahlkemper, Megan Oyster, Jessie Fleming, Alex Morgan, and Lauren Holiday have been part of the University team at different stages.

Men’s Football:

UCLA has had a men’s soccer team since 1937, with Dan Stevenson as a coach. From 1940 to 1947, the team did not participate in any competition. In 1959 they began competing in NCAA Division I, and have since won the championship four times. A lot of UCLA player had very big NFL carriers.

From 1969 to 2017, the team played at Drake Stadium, located on the UCLA university campus. In 2018 they went on to play their home games at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Throughout its history, the men’s soccer team has had 10 coaches, including Jock Stewart (17 seasons), Sigi Schmid (18 seasons), and Jorge Salcedo, who has been in office since 2004.

Players who have passed through the ranks of UCLA include Cobi Jones, Carlos Bocanegra, Benny Feilhaber, and Jonathan Bornstein among many others.
